Video Indexing is a process aimed for sharing the User a way for
accessing to her/his video contents in a fast, organized, and simple
way. Just as the way it is accessed a book's content by means of its
Index.
The Video Indexing process starts from the situation the User performs a Query. In this situation, the Query, instead of one based on terms or phrases just as in Internet Search Engines, is nothing more and nothing less than a Video Sequence.
A Video Indexing System should then return as output a list of the available video sequences but Sorted according to its Similarity with the Input Video Sequence.
The amount of video sequences generated in our times, as well as the sources that originated them, is massive and unquantifiable. But the time required for revising, comparing, and accessing all of these video contents is even greater.
And the IT Industry is already talking about it:
"The sum of all forms of IP video, which includes Internet video, IP VoD, video files exchanged through file sharing, video-streamed gaming, and video conferencing, will continue to be in the range of 80 to 90 percent of total IP traffic. Globally, IP video traffic will account for 82 percent of traffic by 2022..."
"It would take an individual over 5 million years to watch the amount of video that will cross global IP networks every single month in 2019."
"Every second, nearly a million minutes of video content will cross I.P. networks by 2019."
"Consumer VoD traffic will nearly double by 2019, to the equivalent to 7 billion DVDs per month."
"YouTube reports mobile video consumption rises 100% every year."
"90% of users say that product videos are helpful in the decision process."
"59% of senior executives agree that if both text and video are available on the same topic on the same page, they prefer to watch video."
"The development in the network infrastructure has now allowed developers to create applications that give users easy access to video, and there is no shortage of services..."
